Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Dan Caine provided an update on Operation Epic Fury, 19 days into the conflict with Iran. The briefing followed the return of six fallen service members to Dover Air Force Base: Major John Alex Klinner, Major Ariana Savino, Tech Sergeant Ashley Pruitt, Captain Seth Koval, Captain Curtis Angst, and Master Sergeant Tyler Simmons. Total U.S. casualties for the operation currently stand at 13. Hegseth stated the mission remains focused on destroying Iran's missiles, launchers, navy, and defense industrial base to ensure they never acquire a nuclear weapon. To date, the U.S. has struck over 7,000 targets. Iranian ballistic missile and kamikaze drone attacks against U.S. forces have decreased by 90%. The U.S. has damaged or sunk more than 120 Iranian vessels, including all 11 of their submarines, rendering their surface fleet and military ports non-functional. Gen. Caine detailed a shift from standoff weapons to "stand-in" operations deeper within Iranian airspace. The U.S. is utilizing 5,000-pound Penetrator bombs against underground storage facilities. A-10 Warthogs and AH-64 Apaches are targeting fast-attack craft in the Straits of Hormuz, while Apaches in Iraq are striking Iranian-aligned militias. Recent strikes on Kharg Island neutralized over 90 military infrastructure targets, including air defenses and naval base facilities. The Pentagon has requested a $200 billion war supplemental from Congress to replenish munitions and rebuild the defense industrial base. Hegseth highlighted cooperation from Israel and Gulf partners, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Addressing recent strikes on the South Pars gas field, Hegseth emphasized that while allies pursue their own objectives, the U.S. holds the decisive cards and maintains clear goals to eliminate Iranian threats.
