Mojtaba Khamenei has appointed Mohsen Rezaei as his representative to Iran's Supreme National Security Council, praising Rezaei’s role in the Iran-Iraq War and thanking outgoing official Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr. In a separate move, President Masoud Pezeshkian also appointed Rezaei as council secretary following Zolghadr’s resignation. Rezaei led the IRGC from 1981 to 1997 and is known for a hard line on the Strait of Hormuz, negotiations, and military retaliation. The dual appointment further concentrates security policy within veteran IRGC hands.
