Shin cited a post by regime-affiliated Iranian journalist Ali Gholhaki describing what he called Qatar’s latest mediation proposal.
Gholhaki wrote:
The Emir of Qatar has launched extensive mediation efforts, in contrast to Doha’s ambiguous and at times futile process over recent months.
Qatar’s latest proposal is that Iran’s 3.67% enrichment be accepted — as guaranteed by Asim Munir — that Iran dilute its 400 kg of 60% enriched uranium domestically, that the U.S. naval blockade of Iran be lifted, that part of Iran’s assets — between $6 billion and $10 billion — be released, that Iran mediate between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Ansar Allah, and that Iran reopen the strait after IAEA inspectors enter the country.
Given the United States’ insistence over the past 18 months that Iran’s 60% enriched uranium be transferred to the United States and that enrichment be reduced to zero, implementation of this plan would represent a clear U.S. retreat in exchange for a relative retreat by Tehran, particularly on the nuclear issue. Tehran nevertheless continues to insist that its seven conditions be implemented.
But if the United States intends to move toward engagement, why has it begun a new phase of the blockade of Iran under the name “Iron Gate”?
The proposal and its terms were presented as a report from Gholhaki, not as an officially confirmed agreement.
