The IDF has confirmed the elimination of Asghar Bakri, commander of the Quds Force special operations unit (840) since 2019, in a precision airstrike in Tehran. According to the IDF, Bakri held senior positions in the unit, advancing efforts to harm Israeli and American targets worldwide, and planned terror operations against Israel through actions in Israel, Syria, and Lebanon. The unit under his command also advanced operations against IDF forces in the buffer zone in Syria using Syrian operatives, and Bakri began directing attempts to smuggle military combat equipment from Iran into Israeli territory. His elimination is described as another blow to the unit's capabilities.
