Following the latest attacks on ADNOC-operated tankers, the question is whether the UAE could deploy a naval escort through Hormuz without announcing it. The answer is yes.

A naval escort does not require a public announcement. Its composition, schedule and operational coordination can remain undisclosed. Warships are not required to carry AIS under SOLAS and may remain absent from public tracking platforms. Undisclosed does not mean invisible.

What to look for:

  • Repeated tanker rendezvous/timing patterns on AIS
  • An unmatched hull maintaining escort geometry in SAR/optical imagery
  • UAE naval-base departures or berth vacancies
  • VHF/RF emissions, crew reports or ship-spotter imagery
“No AIS” not mean no ship.
No announcement does not mean no escort.

But one AIS gap or one satellite dot proves nothing. As of today, there were no UAE announcements or independent confirmation of an escort.
