An explosion sent plumes of smoke into the air near Sabaa Abkar in eastern Baghdad, Iraq.

The blast involved damaged ammunition stored at a site operated by the IRGC-backed Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), also known as Hashed Al Sha'abi. Footage showed the moment of the explosion. No casualties were reported.

The Iraqi prime minister ordered an investigation into the ammunition cache explosion.

The PMU later said preliminary findings from the Interior Ministry attributed the explosion to an internal fault, with no indication that the site had been targeted externally.
