On July 16, United States forces successfully destroyed the observation tower at Shahid Kalantari Port in Chabahar, which was part of the maritime surveillance network along the coast of Iran in the Gulf of Oman. For decades, the network has been used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to monitor commercial vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz and to attack them.
The destruction of the tower directly harms the IRGC's ability to coordinate attacks against innocent civilian crew members. Additionally, the strike helps ensure freedom of navigation in the region's waters for all vessels, except for vessels attempting to violate the ongoing maritime blockade imposed by the United States on Iran.
